About Jordan Insurance Federation
about

The Jordan Insurance Federation (JIF) was formally established in 1989 as the successor to the Jordanian Association of Insurance Companies, which had been founded in 1956 as the first entity responsible for regulating and organizing insurance affairs in Jordan. Throughout its early years, the Association was led by several pioneering figures in the insurance sector until 1989, when the official regulation establishing the Federation was issued. This regulation outlined the Federation’s objectives, governance structure, operational mechanisms, and its relationship with relevant institutions. It remained in force until 2008, when Regulation No. 107 of 2008 was enacted.

In 2024, the new Federation Regulation No. 26 of 2024 came into effect on May 1, 2024, in alignment with the requirements of the Insurance Regulation Law No. 12 of 2021. This law introduced updated legislative frameworks reflecting new concepts within the insurance sector following the transfer of insurance supervision in the Kingdom to the Central Bank of Jordan. Today, the Federation includes 19 licensed insurance companies operating in Jordan, all of which are considered members by mandate under the regulation.

The Federation aims to enhance coordination and cooperation with the Central Bank of Jordan and other local, regional, and international entities connected to the insurance sector in matters related to its objectives. It works to raise public awareness of insurance in cooperation with relevant stakeholders by organizing seminars, conferences, and training courses designed to promote and develop insurance activities, whether held inside or outside the Kingdom.

Additionally, the Federation conducts research, prepares studies and statistics related to insurance activities, and issues periodic publications, newsletters, and reports that support sector development. It facilitates the settlement of financial obligations among its members through clearing processes and supports technical cooperation by enabling the exchange of information and expertise among members and with the Federation. The Federation has also established mechanisms for systematic information and data sharing among member companies and provides complementary services supporting sector operations.

Moreover, the Federation accepts the membership of chairpersons of associations representing auxiliary insurance service providers as observers in its General Assembly. It also coordinates with insurance-related associations and companies that offer supporting services to the sector, issues the Insurance Code of Conduct, submits legislative proposals to the Central Bank, and provides recommendations to insurance companies to enhance their role in the national economy and support corporate social responsibility initiatives. The Federation also represents the sector before local and Arab insurance bodies and associations.
